The Emergency Dispatcher primarily handles emergency situations, but often deals with non-emergency situations as well. The Emergency Dispatcher’s primary duty is to serve the public by assisting field personnel with the protection of life and property through proper and expedient dispatching of an emergency police, fire, and medical personnel and equipment. The Emergency Dispatcher serves as a liaison between the general public and the emergency services personnel who are responsible for maintaining public safety. Additional duties are of a routine clerical nature. The Emergency Dispatcher I does related work as required and assigned.Įmployees of this class must be able to function calmly during emergencies and to take appropriate action efficiently. The Emergency Dispatcher I assists the Coordinator with establishment of Standard Operating Procedures. The Emergency Dispatcher I is responsible for supervising the activities of one or more Emergency Dispatcher(s) and for instructing all new department personnel in the operation of the radio, computer and other related equipment. Emergency Dispatcher I's receive and relay police, fire and emergency medical calls. The duties of Emergency Dispatcher I involve performing and supervising work related to radio, telephone, and computer equipment at the Columbia County 911 Center. The Chief Dispatcher also assists with planning, implementing, equipping, budgeting, staffing, and communication services. ![]() In addition to the duties of an Emergency Dispatcher 1, the Chief Dispatcher is also responsible for assisting the 911 Director with administrative duties, establishing SOP's, and overseeing and supervising staff at the 911 Center. ![]()
